This page is how you use the privacy rights in the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, the GDPR, the UK GDPR, and state laws that give the same kind of request. Write to us and we will handle it. You do not have to live in a particular place for us to answer.
Do not sell or share
Either does not sell personal information. Either does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. There is no sale to opt out of, and no advertising partner to switch off. We also do not use a decision to infer characteristics about you for ads.
A situation you write can include finances, health, family, or precise place. We use that only to run the council, the vote, and the card you approve. We do not use it for anything else.
What you can ask for
- Know and access what we hold about you.
- Correct it. Name and email can also be changed in settings.
- Delete it, including the private decisions on the account.
- Receive a copy of the private record.
- Limit use of sensitive information to running the decision you submitted.
- Object to a use, or ask us to restrict it, where the GDPR or UK GDPR gives you that right.
- Take a public card down. Unpublishing does that without a request.
- Not be treated worse for asking.
Why we hold it
If the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, the account, the sitting, and an invite you ask us to send are the service you requested. The sign-in cookie, the one-vote cookie, and abuse prevention are legitimate interests in keeping Either working. A public card is published because you confirmed it, and you can take it down. We keep something longer only when the law tells us to.
Categories
In the categories California uses, Either holds:
- Identifiers: name, email, the sign-in session, and the browser id for a public vote.
- Customer records: the account.
- The contents of a decision, which you choose to write and which may be sensitive.
- The council’s positions and the computed verdict for that decision.
- Invite addresses and votes.
We do not collect commercial purchase history. The service is not charged yet. We do not collect demographics. We have not sold or shared personal information in the last twelve months.
How to ask
Email privacy@geteither.com from the address on the account. Say whether you want access, a copy, a correction, or deletion. We may ask you to confirm you control that account before we act. An authorized agent may write for you. We may still ask you to confirm the request yourself.
We answer within 30 days, and no later than 45 days. If a request is unusually large we will tell you, and we may take one extension of the length the law allows. If we refuse, we will say why. You can reply to that message to appeal. People in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland can also complain to the data protection authority where they live.
We will not ask you to make an account just to file a request. A public voter with no account can still write. We can only find a vote from the browser id if that browser still has it.
Where the request goes
Either is operated from the United States. We do not have an office in the EEA or the UK, and we have not appointed a European representative. Requests still go to privacy@geteither.com. The companies that host, store, write, and mail for Either are in the United States, so information from Europe is processed there under the transfer terms those providers include.
If a representative becomes required, this page will name them. If your state gives you a right to know, correct, delete, or opt out of a sale, we treat that request the same way.
